Connetquot High School hosts Model UN conference

Connetquot High School’s Model United Nations club hosted the 2026 edition of ConnetMUNC (Connetquot Model United Nations Conference).
Approximately 130 student delegates participated in the event. In addition to the 15 Connetquot students who chaired the committee discussions, 30 club members helped coordinate the conference behind the scenes, with additional support from volunteers from the Rho Kappa Honor Society.
Committee topics included climate change, the conflict in Syria, the legal rights of children in the digital frontier, gun control in the United States, the disposal of nuclear waste and an alternative history scenario set in the Pacific theater of World War II.
In preparation for the conference, student delegates spent weeks researching their assigned countries and roles. Their work culminated in a full day of authentic discussions focused on debate, cooperation and diplomacy.
At the conclusion of the conference, the top three delegates in each of the five committees received awards recognizing their achievements and skills.
Participating schools included Bay Shore, Hauppauge, Half Hollow Hills, Lindenhurst, Patchogue-Medford, Port Washington, Saint Francis Prep, Sachem East, Sachem North and Walt Whitman.
